The 2012 Celebrations for the Bicentenary of Dickens’ Birth on Tuesday, 7th February, 1812
There will be Celebration of the birthday of Charles Dickens, in partnership with the City Museums Service, at 10.30 for 11.00 a.m.
There will be the traditional placing of a wreath at the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum by the Honorary President of the Birthplace Branch of the Fellowship, the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth.
A Toast will be proposed by a member of the Dickens Fellowship to the Immortal Memory of Charles Dickens coupled with the City of his Birth.
There will be special presentations all day in the Birthplace Museum.
A subscription Dinner will be hosted by the Lord Mayor in the Lord Mayor’s Banqueting Room in the evening. (Details to be announced.)
Thursday 9th August to Tuesday 14th August
The International Dickens Fellowship will be holding its Annual Conference at the University of Portsmouth. The theme will be “The Impact of Dickens”.
A civic reception by the Lord mayor is planned for the 9th August to welcome delegates to the city.
The Conference will included a Bicentennial Banquet.
The unveiling in Portsmouth of a Statue to Charles Dickens will occur during the Conference.
